You’re probably asking yourself why would someone create a webpage dedicated to the 3d Battalion 15th Field Artillery Regiment? This journey began with the rush to inactivate the Battalion in 1994, leaving a sense of incomplete business. We closed with a ceremony to case our colors on 10 September 1994, but no recognition of the Battalion’s accomplishments or what being a part of it meant to its Soldiers. Twenty-seven years later that acknowledgement began with a patch. We searched for former members of the battalion, and when we found them we would send them a 3/15 Veteran patch. From that patch came our first reunion in December 2022. Since then we have held a reunion every year. That first patch morphed into a Battalion Coin which lead to a lapel pin followed by our own patch for the 3d Battalion and that eventually lead to the King of Battle Award and a Battalion Molly Pitcher Award.
Why did we create this webpage? The answer to that is simply so the men of the battalion would never be forgotten; that their legacy will live on along with their accomplishments, especially as many of them served all 17 years when the battalion was active in Alabama. In a conversation with the Battalion CSM Don Peak “I never thought I would ever see anyone from the battalion again after we were in inactivated. It means a lot to all the Soldiers, NCOs and Officers that served in the battalion to be able to come back together again once a year.”
This is a journey that all of us are on together and it’s far from over. We’re not even close to being halfway through it, but I do know this the 3d Battalion 15th Field Artillery Regiment will never be forgotten. This webpage will be an enduring reflection of the unit and its accomplishments.
